In Liechtenstein, a new, comprehensive system for maternity, paternity, and parental leave will be introduced with effect from January 1, 2026. In summary, the following regulations apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maternity
Entitlement to 20 consecutive weeks of leave, of which at least 16 weeks must be taken after the birth
Employees must register their entitlement with the Family Compensation Fund (FAK), or alternatively their employer can do so on their behalf
Maternity pay amounts to 80% of the last salary subject to AHV contributions received before the birth (max. CHF 148,200)
The family compensation fund (FAK) transfers the maternity allowance directly to the employer, who then forwards it to the employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entitlement to 2 consecutive weeks of leave, which must be taken within the first 8 months of the child’s life, starting from the date of birth.
The employee must register their entitlement with the Family Compensation Fund (FAK), or alternatively this can be done by the employer
The amount of paternity allowance is 80% of the last salary subject to AHV contributions received before the birth (max. CHF 148,200)
The Family Compensation Fund (FAK) transfers the paternity allowance directly to the employer; which then forwards it to the employee
Transitional arrangement:<\/em><\/strong> For every child born in 2025 and no older than 8 months on January 1, 2026, an 8-month framework period for taking paternity leave begins on January 1, 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each parent is entitled to up to four months of parental leave, two months of which are paid by the Family Compensation Fund (FAK).
Parental leave can be taken on a full-time basis; it can also be divided into part-time, days, or hours.
Period of entitlement: from the date of birth until the child reaches the age of three.
Entitlement to leave if the parents have been employed by the same employer for more than six months without interruption.
Parents must register their entitlement with the family compensation fund (FAK), or alternatively with their employer; in either case, the employer must confirm the start and duration of the parental leave to the FAK.
The amount of parental allowance is 100% of the average monthly salary subject to AHV (for the last 12 months before the birth), but no more than CHF 4,900 per month

Transitional arrangement<\/em><\/strong>: Parental leave can be taken for children born in 2023 until the end of December 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
